EiC: Get Out and Vote

Thirty years ago, Nelson Mandela led South Africa out of Apartheid and into a new democratic era, securing a peaceful transfer of power and a future that held much promise. The three decades since have seen much of that promise realised, but South Africa continues to struggle to thrive amidst the legacy of Apartheid’s social and economic devastation, and ongoing government corruption. At the end of May, South Africa goes to the polls in one of many significant elections taking place in 2024.

Craig recently visited South Africa and caught up on some of the current literature analysing South Africa’s socio-political situation. In a companion piece to his EiC issue on politics and wisdom, released last week, Craig gives his appraisal of his homeland’s politics and offers some advice for those going to the polls.
