The Scripture and University Seminar (SAUS) hosted the second in its series of events, which will culminate in our annual in-person meeting at SBL/IBR in November. Dr Cyndi Parker led a discussion on the topic Placemaking in Deuteronomy. Dr Parker teaches in universities and churches about the biblical narrative, investing in place and people, and what it means to be a resident and citizen of the world.
Among other things, Dr Parker points out that Israel’s temple had a crucial placemaking role, not just in drawing the whole nation together to one God in one place, but also in creating there a model of faith that altered how the Israelites conceived of their own placemaking when they returned from the temple.
