KLC hosts a variety of private events within our hubs and seminars, a monthly open prayer meeting, and occasional public events with our members and partners, which typically happen on the third Thursday of each month. We also host a biennial conference in Cambridge and our annual meal during SBL in North America.

Prayer is at the heart of KLC’s work. Under the leadership of Hugo Herfst, we will host an hour prayer meeting on the first Thursday of every month at 4pm UK time that is open to the whole KLC community.

Christians are called to live as disciples of Jesus in every area of life, including our public and political lives. But how do we do this when politics can seem so complicated and even toxic? In his new book Reimagining Biblical Politics: What Scripture Says about Public Life and Why It Matters, Michael J. Rhodes explores the startling, strange, beautiful, and often-neglected world of biblical politics. While Rhodes argues that the Bible’s political witness is united in its claim that God reigns, Scripture also paints a strikingly diverse picture of the various ways God’s people live out their allegiance to God both as an outpost of God’s kingdom and in their interactions with nations, places, cultures, and contexts that do not acknowledge God’s reign and way.
This KLC webinar will include a short presentation by Rhodes on key themes from the book, as well as responses to portions of the book from M. Daniel Carroll R., Dennis R. Edwards, Ellen F. Davis, and Kaitlyn Schiess, and a significant time for audience Q&A. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to explore how Scripture can help us reimagine political discipleship.

This year is KLC’s “Year of the Decalogue,” as we anticipate the publication of Craig Bartholomew’s Moses and the Victory of Yahweh in 2027. As part of this focus, KLC is running a series of lectures on topics relevant to the Decalogue.
In our fifth lecture, Dr Gary Cockerill presents “The Decalogue, the Two Greatest Commandments, and Following Jesus in the Gospel of Mark.” Gary Cockerill is Professor Emeritus of New Testament and Biblical Theology at Wesley Biblical Seminary, Jackson, Mississippi, where he taught for thirty-five years before retirement in June, 2017. His book, The Jesus Question: Discovering Jesus’ Identity in His First Biography is scheduled for publication by Hendrickson in 2026.
The Scripture and Hermeneutics Seminar continues its multiyear project exploring difficult texts as Christian Scripture. The focus for 2026 is Joshua and Judges. Our question is: How do Joshua and Judges form and shape us into the people God is calling us to be in Christ?
Join us for our final online event for the year to consider questions of formation. We’ll enjoy two short presentations from Helen Paynter and Edwina Murphy. This will be followed by a time of Q&A.

Helen Paynter, “From ‘They Did’ to ‘We Ought’? How Do the Biblical Stories of War And Violence Shape Us?”
Helen Paynter is a tutor (professor in US terms) in biblical studies at Bristol Baptist College. She is a Baptist minister as well as the founder and executive director for the Centre for the Study of Bible and Violence. Her PhD research looked at humour in the book of Kings, though her main research interests now lie in narrative hermeneutics, and the intersection between Christian Scripture and violence. She is coming to the end of writing a commentary on the book of Numbers for Wipf and Stock’s Bible in God’s World.
Edwina Murphy, “Meditate upon It Day and Night: Cyprian’s Use of Joshua and Judges in Christian Formation”
Edwina Murphy is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) of the Australian University of Theology. Her area of expertise is early North African Christianity, particularly Cyprian of Carthage and his use of scripture.
