Trevor is Emeritus Professor of Christian Education and was Director of the National Institute for Christian Education Research at Canterbury Christ Church University, UK having retired in September 2020. Prior to that he was the Director of the Transforming Lives Project, an interdenominational initiative that promoted teaching as a Christian vocation amongst churches and Christian organisations in Britain. From 2015 to 2021, he was Chair of the Religious Education Council of England and Wales, swapping that for becoming Chair of his local Church of England primary school.

Trevor has been active in education for over 30 years as, at various times, a classroom teacher, head of Religious Education in a secondary school, chief executive of The Stapleford Centre (a Christian education charity), a curriculum developer, author, government adviser, university lecturer and schools adviser for the Diocese of Gloucester. He has a PhD in Religious Education from the University of Birmingham, although his first degree is in Biology. He has written widely on education in both books and journals. His most recent interest is in the reframing of school Religious Education using the notion of worldview.

Trevor is a frequent speaker at education conferences, mainly in the UK and Australia. In 2008 he was the Travelling Scholar for the Australian Anglican Schools Network, visiting schools and working with teachers in the six states. He visited Australia on eleven occasions; however, retirement and the pandemic have brought an end to that!

Trevor is married to Margaret who too is active in Christian education, mainly as an author of materials for schools. Margaret recently completed a PhD in Homiletics at Durham University. They have two sons, a foster-daughter and five grandchildren.
