Paul lives in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, with his wife and two children. As Executive Director of Christianity in Society, he encourages Christ-centred thinking and living through consultancy (advice to and mentoring of leaders) and training in apologetics, ethics, leadership and pastoral care. He teaches ethics and practical theology subjects in three theological colleges in Ireland and one in Malaysia and teaches the Bible regularly in churches and conferences across Ireland and beyond. He is also a pastoral mentor with the Belfast Chinese Christian Church, a member of Windsor Baptist Church, Belfast, and an Associate of the World Evangelical Alliance Mission Commission. He has edited three books and authored eight, including Keeping Care Pastoral and Honour, Fear and Love: The Shape of Christian Faithfulness in a Post-Christian Society, and two volumes of poetry. He blogs and podcasts regularly and writes the Connected Christianity substack.

Paul’s ministry draws on experience working as a medical doctor, lay magistrate and lecturer in theology, as well as in youth work, cross-cultural pastoral ministry, and charity management. He holds degrees in medical genetics (BSc, Queen’s Belfast), medicine (MB BCh, Queen’s Belfast), theology (MA, Wales) and divinity (PhD, Aberdeen) and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching (Queen’s, Belfast). His doctoral work was in the interface of ecclesiology and missiology in church planting by evangelicals in contemporary Northern Ireland. For recreation he enjoys walking hills, writing poetry, and reading history.
