James C. Ungureanu is a historian of science and religion specializing in the intellectual and theological roots of modernity. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Queensland and teaches in the Intellectual Foundations program at Carthage College. His research explores the historical relationship between scientific naturalism, biblical criticism, and Christian theology, with particular attention to how concepts such as the “conflict thesis” and the natural/supernatural divide emerged within Protestant culture. He is the author of Science, Religion, and the Protestant Tradition (2019) and co-author of Of Popes and Unicorns: Science, Christianity, and How the Conflict Thesis Fooled the World (Oxford University Press, 2023). Ungureanu has published widely in both scholarly and public venues, and his work bridges intellectual history, theology, and cultural criticism, aiming to make complex historical debates accessible to broader audiences.
