Delvyn Case maintains an international interdisciplinary career as both a musician and as a public scholar specializing in the intersections of music and religion. Trained as a composer, his works have been performed by numerous Grammy-winning artists and by over 100 orchestras around the world. Over the past 25 years he has developed a unique focus on composing concert works that explore themes drawn from the Bible and Christian theology, many of which have been performed as part of bespoke interdisciplinary events intended for scholars, church audiences, and the general public. He also works as an orchestral, choral, and gospel music conductor; a classical and improvising pianist; a church musician and worship leader; a concert curator; arts entrepreneur; and record producer. He writes for both academic and popular audiences on the connections between Christianity and music (both classical and popular), working in the fields of religious studies, musicology, and theology. He has contributed to some of the most prominent religious publications in the United States and UK, and currently writes the column “Alleluia! Music and the Christian Life” for Patheos.com, the world’s largest source for English language writing on religion. His work has been featured on BBC Radio 4, in Time Magazine, and the Boston Globe, and he has appeared on numerous radio programs and podcasts. His commitment to community engagement and practical theology led him in 2018 to found Deus Ex Musica, an international organization that promotes the use of sacred music as a resource for spiritual formation, ecumenism, and interfaith dialogue. Under its auspices, he has developed and hosted numerous unique projects and events featuring contemporary sacred music. He spent 2024 as a Visiting Fellow at Exeter College, Oxford, and currently serves as Professor of Music at historic Wheaton College, a secular liberal arts institution in Massachusetts.
