Dr Bartholomew supervises PhDs for the University of Aberdeen through Trinity College, Bristol. Our hope is to expand our supervision through the development of a cohort of supervisors. We want to be a place where students can pursue PhDs without having to bracket off their faith, but instead have it at the heart of their research, even as they aspire towards excellence in their scholarship.
Dr Bartholomew has supervised many PhD students across a variety of topics. Two past examples are Dr Shawn Langley and Dr Benjamin Quinn. Shawn’s thesis is a very creative comparison of the epistemologies of Cornelius Van Til and Alvin Plantinga. Benjamin, now an established theologian in his own right, did his research on wisdom in Augustine, with Lewis Ayres as his second supervisor.
Amber Bowen is currently finishing her PhD on theological anthropology opening up a highly creative dialogue between Søren Kierkegaard and the new French Catholic Phenomenology.
